Like the cutting and blowing of Waterford’s crystal, the handcrafting of cased crystal is a specialized art. Using centuries-old techniques of glassblowing, artisans shape pure, clear crystal and master the fusion of clear and colored crystal, in which newly formed crystal is plunged into a fiery kiln where brilliant, colored crystal encases its body. Then a master cutter painstakingly cuts through the envelope of color to release the pure crystal encased beneath it. The traditions of Waterford and Hungarian glassblowers come together in this set, featuring two hand-cut 33% lead crystal glasses encased in a jewel-like ruby color.
